I had the rusted oil pan removed and a new one from RockAuto installed. Saved some money instead of going to Nissan, but when I had the oil changed last week, they couldn't get the dipstick out. Now we have a problem that looks like I might have to have the engine pulled as well as the pan. Any ideas on how fix this? Why is the dipstick stuck? Person who did the work is no longer in business.

This is on a 2004 Xterra 2W.
Thanks

This happened to someone else. I think you have to remove the dipstick while you replace the pan. Something pinches if you don't.

When they changed my motor had the same problem. Then the end came off. I ended up dropping the front diff and the starter to get the pan off. (3.3,4×4) see yours is 2 wheel drive. Hopefully that saves some effort. The pan was easy, just hard to get to. Hopefully this helps, just look underneath to see what's in the way. One advantage you're got is no front diff.man that was heavy by myself good luck

Thanks for your helpful comments, Guys/Gals. I suspect that the dipstick got pinched in the pan/block as I can move the dipstick 2" out before it stops. No amount of pulling, twisting will release it.

Well, youse pays your money n takes youse chances! I was trying to save some bucks and had the parts from Rock Auto installed by a local mechanic that had been recommended to me. I may just leave it and have the oil changed every 10K.

If a mechanic did the work then it sounds like he did it wrong... I'd take it back and have him re-do it with the dipstick OUT.

Then again, the dipsticks on these trucks are kind of useless anyway. You can never accurately gauge where the oils line is when you check it. It's just either wet or its not wet.

Not a bad idea. Just be nice about it-get more flies with honey than vinegar
