ok so i am in moab for spring break just wheelin some trails and I started hear this loud sound.
I stopped my x and looked under the car and saw my rear driverside bottom leaf cracked in half but was still connected to the sway bar.
I am driving back to colorado on Wednesday.
Does this need to be fixed before I drive back? If so, how much will it cost or what can i do? Thanks for the help!
I have a first gen 2000 xterra.
Hmmmm, not sure how to answer this....
It SOUNDS like you forgot to throw the rear sway bar in the garbage...and, before things went south on you, it should never have been connected to the leaves, at all, ever.
If you NOW have the rear sway bar and your leaves tangled up, you might have also broke the rear pass side shock, and possibly ripped a brake line, etc. (HOPEFULLY NOT).
The bottom MOST leave is a load leaf, its about an inch thick, and fairly flat looking...if that cracked, remove it and the other side's version as well, and replace both U bolts/nuts...and you'd be fine.
The rear sway bar is connected to the AXLE by two clamps, and then there's two links that go up to the frame. Its not SUPPOSED to be touching the leaves.
Remove it altogether, you don't need it.
Take some pics and report back to be on the safer side, and esp if its not just the load leaf that's cracked.
So, inspect all that stuff mentioned, take a lot of pics, and post them.
