ok so i am in moab for spring break just wheelin some trails and I started hear this loud sound. I stopped my x and looked under the car and saw my rear driverside bottom leaf cracked in half but was still connected to the sway bar. I am driving back to colorado on Wednesday. Does this need to be fixed before I drive back? If so, how much will it cost or what can i do? Thanks for the help!

Hmmmm, not sure how to answer this....

It SOUNDS like you forgot to throw the rear sway bar in the garbage...and, before things went south on you, it should never have been connected to the leaves, at all, ever.

If you NOW have the rear sway bar and your leaves tangled up, you might have also broke the rear pass side shock, and possibly ripped a brake line, etc. (HOPEFULLY NOT).

Look though.

The bottom MOST leave is a load leaf, its about an inch thick, and fairly flat looking...if that cracked, remove it and the other side's version as well, and replace both U bolts/nuts...and you'd be fine.

The rear sway bar is connected to the AXLE by two clamps, and then there's two links that go up to the frame. Its not SUPPOSED to be touching the leaves.

Remove it altogether, you don't need it.

Take some pics and report back to be on the safer side, and esp if its not just the load leaf that's cracked.

So, inspect all that stuff mentioned, take a lot of pics, and post them.

TJTJ- i checked again after I saw your post and the leaf is NOT connected to the sway bar and i took a few pics..

Can I drive some 600 miles plus on the highway with this like it is? Or do I need to fix it?
is that the leaf that connects to your rear shackle? The one that has a loop on the end? If it is, I highly recommend that you didnt drive it. If it isn't, I would at least remove that broken leaf before your trip. Your truck wont ride level but you could at least limp home.
well I was driving to get some tools to take it out and i hit a bump and one half of it just fell out in the middle of the road. so its taken out now so I will nurse it back to colorado tomorrow and fix it when i get back. Thanks for the help guys
best luck with your trip. if you go second hand [junkyard etc] for the replacement do both sides. they may have set different than you own. when mine broke I got a local shop to replace them [both cracked]. good thing was it went up in back. I ended up doing a PML without shackles in back. just turned up the bars
