Currently have a 1st gen with 3" suspension lift (AC) and 32s (4.5 backspaced rims)

After a bit of plastic trimming, the tires fit fine and don't seem to ever rub when stuffed/turned.

Looking to get a set of winter tires and also hoping to be able to run snow chains on them. I'm assuming that for snow chains I need extra clearance - so should be looking to get 30-31 sized winter tires?

Also on a side note, after a bit of research on this forum I saw folks were able to run 33s without doing a body lift, just 3" suspension lift - with some 'BFH' -> I'm assuming BFH stands for Big F$%*ing Hammer - wondering what exactly are you hammering back? And steel in the wheel well? Any chance of damaging anything doing that??

i have 33s and run tire chains with no issues. 6in lift in front(sas) and 4in of suspension lift in the rear(shackles and custom springs), no body lift. before my current setup i had only 3 in of lift and had quite a bit a tire rub in the rear with the 33s but i never hammered anything. if you run chains in the front i'm not sure how much lift you would need but if you run them in the rear i would shoot for 3in with the 33s. i run -4 offset wheels and wheel spacers in the rear though so my stance is a little wider than most

so i have 2 in body and 3 in suspension on stock rims with 33 10.5 tires. I trimmed the mud flaps straight down on the bottom (they still have the edge on the sides) and a little bit on the front bumper by the bar it mounts to the bottom. Chains fit fine and no rub. And as long as you are not an idiot they work AWESOME on the front. If its coming loose it could severe a brake line so if you hear them clanking around pull over and make sure they are tight. I was running that on mine and pulled out even a identical frontier with just chains on the rear. Had him swap to the front and he was on his way.
