2005 Xterra with 4 cats, two on each side, are plugged. What material is inside these catalytic converters? Can they be removed and burned out? Thanks for he help. MTG

Do not have emissions testing in Montana...therefore can the cats be removed and somehow burn out the residue or remove altogether? MTG

Yes but the CEL will not turn off if you can live with that . If your going to do that they make a eliminator pipe to replace the cats.

Doesn't the ECM use input from the rear O2 sensors to tune the engine? How does no catalyst impact that?

Gutting or taking the cats off line from ECM id going to confuse tuning you may need o2 eliminators also.
