I believe my brake booster has failed. I was out running some errands and all of the sudden my brake pedal became very hard to push and had to be very careful to give myself enough time to stop on my way home. It also makes a hissing sound whenever I touch the pedal.

From what I have found online it sounds like a failed brake booster. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, is it a fairly easy DIY job? I could not find any tutorials online. Thanks in advance for any guidance you may be able to provide.

FYI, I have a 2001 Xterra, 3.3 V6

Sounds right but look for a vacuum leak first. The booster "boosts" using vacuum from the engine. It's also very possible you just need a new hose.
