My heat/ac isn't working on 1 or 2, but 3 and 4 work just fine. I know the problem/fix, just have to swap out the blower motor resistor (about $25 at AutoZone, maybe cheaper elsewhere). Had the same exact problem on my 2001 Sentra, thought it might have been the switch so I replaced that too, didn't help. The resistor took care of it.

I'm curious if anybody has had this issue with your X? Maybe on any other Nissans? Just curious if this is coincidence for both of my Nissans, or if it's a reoccurring problem for multiple people.

I cant say its happened to me in my X. But my old Wrangler had the same issue. Never got it fixed though, if I wanted air I would just take the top down lol. I have noticed though on my X that the illumination around my air position has gotten dimmer over the past few months though :/

My friend's 2001 Pathfinder had the same issue. Started working on and off, and then would only work in full bore or nothing. That eventually gave out as well, so I tore it apart and the main plug was melted. For some reason on his Finder the +12 and main ground in the climate control plug were fairly heavy gauge, maybe 14 or so. The other wires in the plug all go to ground to control the blower (smaller, maybe 18 gauge). Just threw in a switch to give speed 3 (out of 4) ground and it worked until he was able to get a new harness end (which had all 18 gauge wires). He also replaced the controller just to be on the safe side.
