So apparently Bilstein discontinued producing the 5100 series front shocks (pt# 24-223379)
This is what is currently on my lifted '02 X and I would love to replace them with the same shocks but I am having zero luck locating any available.
I was told by 4x4parts.com that Bilstein still produces them specially for them but they only have 1 in stock and it will be probably 6 months before they get anymore in stock.

So my first question is...
Does anyone have any or know of a place that has 2 in stock?

Next question...
What would be the best equivalent shock to the 5100 series front shocks for lifted 1st gen X?

Why not just get the 4600 series? I was always told it’s the same shock just shinier. I know some of them have adjustable spring seats but that doesn’t apply to torsion bar vehicles

For the fronts if I couldn’t get 5100’s I’d run 4600 series. That’s what my truck has now as 5100 fronts were introduced after I lifted mine.

My understanding of the difference between the two is the 5100 has a digressive linear piston that is designed and built to act as a stop at the end of the stroke, the wheel fully extended hanging in space. The 4600 does not use this piston and when run on the rear can damage the shock at full droop. So on the front the 4600 would not bother me at all.

I may have to go with Rancho 9000 series. Would go with Fox but they don't make anything for a 1st gen X unfortunately
This is what I'm running on mine. The Ranchos do fairly well for damping, although, they are a little bit "soft" for quick manuevering. You feel a little bit more of the body roll that a top heavy vehicle can have. That said, I also have NO rear sway bar and the front one could use new bushings, tbh. I drive it like any other vehicle that I have- with the respect that it deserves. Bronco II has MUCH more bodyroll and it STILL HAS both sway bars, so, Golden Delicious apple to Granny Smith apple...

Which is the Delicious, and which the Granny? :D (I'd imagine the Xterra is the Delicious, and Bronco II the Granny, not vice versa.)

My 2004 is probably due for new shocks, but I don't get any more roll than I would expect. That assessment may be biased, though, since the FSB was disconnected when I got it, and now it's so much better on the road with it hooked up! I just need to have a pair of wrenches when I go out on a trail so I can disconnect the FSB again. So much more articulation that way!

RSB was already missing, so I can't comment on that.

MeToo, you're not wrong about which is which, however, that little BII with 31's, 5speed and 4.0 will steal your lunch faster than a fat kid going hungry. Lighter, more hp and torque equals a little monster. The X will beat it in a "wheelbase is needed game", otherwise, you're getting smoked! The specs for that little monster are not for cluttering this thread up, however. You will see it at some point, I promise!:p
