I have an 2002 Nissan Xterra XE - V6 - 3.3L 3275cc GAS MFI type VG33E - 2 valve SOHC
I just replaced my battery and alternator the same day and both my lights came on again and its been less than a week, is there anything else that could cause this?
Did you attempt the repair yourself?
Reason I ask is because originally what was the original failure, I'm assuming the ALT and then the battery died?
- If you have access to a DVOM or whats called a digital Volt meter or even an analog one. What you should do is read the battery voltage at rest. Note it and write it down if need be. It should be between 12.3 and 12.8 volts at rest.
- Have someone else start the vehicle.. WATCH the meter and make sure that the battery voltage doesn't drop below 10-11 volts while cranking.
- Then as the truck is running (if its running I should say) then note or write down the voltage. it should be between 13.8 - 14.4 volts while running.
Your ALT is what runs the vehicle believe it or not. The battery is there merely to act as capacitance and storage for accessories like wipers, radio, lights, additional items. But its is NOT unheard of to get a bad alternator or a bad Battery even if brand new. If you think you may have got a bad part, most auto parts stores have a way to LOAD test both the battery and or ALT to see if they are working as intended.
