Heh. They said it couldn't be done. I not only found the "ONE", I have it installed.
Now, all of us 1st and 1.5 Gen crew know how insane external tire racks are for our rigs. Amazon has one for under $350 that only needed 1 small mod, other than the wheel bolt pattern to work. The swing away style rack for a Hummer H2. Yeah, HUMMER parts on an Xterra...

So, the ONLY mod that is needed is to trim about an inch or so off of the LEG of the hinge end of the actual tire carrier. I added a double stack of washers and a spring to the latch pin, with the washers welded on at the point where the spring is a little bit compressed to reduce rattles. My mount brackets are COMPLETELY bolt on, ZERO welding required.

The rack came with a nice steel plate to relocate your license tag, a light for said, all assembly hardware for the RACK ONLY, nothing really for instructions (It's for a Hummer... it HAS to be simple to work with) and a decent powder coat finish. Took about 5-6 hours to figure out how to mount it, collect and cut/drill materials for the brackets. I used the bottom of the frame rails where the hitch mounts, and picked up the holes in the side of the rails for added support. I slightly angled my flat pieces that the rack mounts go on to help account for the extra weight of a 33x12.50x15 on a steel wheel.

Hey, Murph. That looks pretty stout. I like the tied in shackles, as well.
Racer.... don't miss.
I'm very happy with it, overall. Best part is, completely bolt on. Which is wonderful for those that do not have access to welding capabilities.
Bad news though- I had the timing belt pop in the Xterra. So, I'm now debating on either completing my 3.5 swap or going hard and swapping in an LS6 or 6.0 from a 2004 or so, model truck, with needed parts swapped in. (been looking at that, honestly, really heavily)

MERRY CHRISTAMS, all!
