A few weeks ago, my mom passed away at the age of 45. So far out of the stuff she had, I've gotten her 2006 Xterra and 2 rifles.

One is her Fathers old 410 that she had since he passed away when she was 16 years old. The other is a black powder 50 cal that I have no idea on where it came from. The 410 needs a little maintenance done as I don't really know the last time that either of the guns were fired.

When I get the money, I am going to head to Academy or Gander Mtn and get some stuff to clean them up and maybe get some stuff so I can take them to the range and fire them off.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Before doing a lot of cleanup on them, take them to a reputable gun store and see if they have any historical value. When you clean the patina off older items it can completely ruin their value.
Also, it doesn't hurt to have an expert eye give the weapons a once over to make sure they are safe to shoot!

I'm not really worried about the value all that much. They have more sentimental value than I would ever sell them for. I do plan on having somebody experienced look at them, just a matter of finding somebody around my area that is trusted with that stuff.

Sorry for your loss, man. I hope your family if getting along okay.

Hang on to that 410 for sure and do what you can to keep it in good condition, it would make a great teaching firearm for new shooters in your family.

Handing a gun down generation after generation and knowing that others in the family learned about firearms and safety on that gun would mean a lot.
