Problem: when I close the sunroof the latch does not pull the sunroof tight enough causing the window seal to sit slightly above the roof allowing water to get into the sunroof trough.
I have checked the nuts that connect the sunroof to the window interior. The latch itself seems simple enough but nothing obvious sticks out as to why it won't pull tight enough.
Anyone have experience working on the manual latch itself beyond just making sure all the nuts are present and tightened?
Backstory:
Kind of at the end of my rope with the sunroof. Getting ready to stick some caulk around the damn thing outside to seal it and write off the sunroof.
I'm actually trying to cover up the problem which is the drain on the drivers side doesn't drain AT ALL. I've taken the interior apart and pulled off the driver side outside wheel well and panel and can't find where the tube that drains is coming out. Unfortunately the tube itself quickly disappears into the frame of the car after connecting to the sunroof drain.
I've taken the wire used to pull lines through house walls and tried to unclog it. Whatever is clogging it must be huge or the tubes been pinched somewhere (manufacturer defect?). Had a mechanic use an air tool to blow the drain out with no luck.
I've replaced both interior and exterior sunroof weather stripping ($200). Now the only thing I notice is when the sunroof handle latches it doesn't pull the sunroof down enough to create a firm seal (even with the new sunroof gasket).
