Hoping for some fresh advice...
Here's the situation I am having: Truck starts easily from cold. After it runs to temp. & I shut it off, it will only re-start if done within the first 3-5 minutes. If it sits longer, it won't start for about 45mins. - It cranks but won't won't turn over. Sometimes back chugs a puff from engine..It never overheats. Wondering if the temp under the hood can throw off a sensor. There were no codes at first, but one showed - cam sensor so we changed the distributor.
Here's what we've done so far:
Distributor
Timing belt
Plugs& wires
Swapped computer from my other 2000 Xterra-went back to original
Changed ignition wires

Engine runs excellent!! Hoping to get some other suggestions!

Mine has been doing a similar thing recently. After it's been sitting for a while I turn the key and it starts up instantly. But if I drive it for a bit, then shut it off and try to start it again, it's almost like the engine has flooded and really doesn't want to start right away. I'm wondering if it's possible that my injectors still put gas in the cylinders after the engine has been shut off? After the engine starts, it smells really gassy and has more smoke than usual coming out of the pipe. This doesn't help you at all, but hopefully someone on here can help us both out with one reply.

I'm thinking I'll do a Sea Foam treatment through the air intake to see if that helps.

I appreciate hearing from you. No one we've talked with has heard of this situation. Thank you for another possibility to look into!
It'd sure be great if we figure this out in one message!
