New to the site and I have a question. I have a 2000 xterra manual transmission and the tail shaft seal failed while I was at the airport. I was able to put the transmission in first gear to move it closer to a more accessible area but, ultimately had to have it towed home. Since I do all of my own wrenching, I thought this would be the place to ask for any information on replaceing the seal and if there is any advice before I try to get this vic moving again

im not sure how its done but to put the tailshaft back on it only goes on one way, or at least thats what it did for me. before taking it off, mark spots on the tailshaft to the bearing covershield.

Thanks for the advice, I lost all my fluid when the seal failed, I'm trying to be optimistic that I'm not looking at a reubuild/replacement on the transmission.
