My son has a 6 cyl Manual Tran Xterra.

For a while he has been complaining that his horn is not loud enough.
After going out there and listening, I am not sure if it is normal (for an Xterra), weak, or just a higher pitch than normal cars.
To me it actually sounds like a horn on the toy cars that little kids ride on from Toys-R-Us.

Any recommendations for replacing the horn? I looked on Rock Auto and they have about 7, but they are listed as high pitch, low, etc...
Which one give a nice loud honk?

If you're looking for a decent horn, check out the Hella 007424801 horn kit. Nice set of loud horns for around $15-20.

Very likely that it has two separate horns and perhaps one of them stopped working or became disconnected. I will check on mine later this afternoon and let you know

Often it is both 1 high and 1 low note horn, sometimes on different sides of the car and this sounds blend together into one pitch, I will check later this afternoon

I checked my own horn today. as far as I can tell it is just one mounted behind the grill below the hood latch. It has a kind of wimpy sound as well. I can recall the last time I pressed it, So it kind of surprised me with the sound

My '04 is kinda wimpy as well. My wife makes fun the horn, I hate it. My Camry has a louder horn. I'm going to look into getting a louder horn, as well as throwing some train air horns on there. Get people to stop being stupid around town in front of us.
