Hi guys,
so I have a 2000 Xterra 4wd with 175K miles. I just bought it a few months ago so know very little about the history of this vehicle. Troubles started when it cot cold here (not below freezing). Vehicle would go dead after start when I put it in drive or reverse, once the motor warmed up it would drive fine. This happened for 10 days or so. THEN, just as I am about to change the tranny fluid, I am driving around abut 5 miles and the tranny starts slipping. It will drive for a mile or so, then slip completely, no matter what gear. If I let the car sit for 15 minutes or so, it will drive again, another mile or so, and again, start slipping as before.
SO I drained the fluid from the pan, its dark, brown... but there isn't any water in it. So I added new fluid (about 5 qts), same issue. Drove for about a mile, then full slip again. Anyone seen this before, or can give me a direction on what to check next?

Thats bad news. I have an 01 sitting beside it I could pull and replace with. Any difference between 2000 and 2001?
