Anyone running 16x7, 0-offset rims on a first-generation XTerra?

Tire Rack lists them as "May need modifications to avoid rubbing" and I'm wondering whether they're just being particularly conservative or if I really would need to do a bit of lifting to fit 16x7 rims on.

(The bigger goal is to get a set of snow tires and rims, but the only rims Tire Rack lists as fitting the first-generation XTerra are a 16x8, which would require a wider tire than I want to put on.)

Thanks,
Kevin

16x7 is a stock size. Not sure what offset though. The tire size ultimately determines how much rubbing, if any you get.

If it were me I'd get a set of stock wheels on Craigslist. You'll be able to run up to a 265/75/16 or 32x11.5x15. Tires will be cheaper for 15" wheels. Lots of stock options out there from Xterra, Pathfinder, Frontier.
