Well, it's happened to me.

I did a pinion seal replacement last night on the X. Once completed, started up the X and drove it 100 yrds to my door yard.

This morning, went to start it and it would not start. It cranks fine.

I shot a couple of shots of starting fluid into the throttle body just to see if it was a fuel problem but absolutely no change leading me to believe it's not the fuel system.
Question:
On these Xs, would starting fluid work at least temporarily if it were a fuel problem?

If the fuel system is okay, what would be a good way to begin diagnosing the ignition circuit?

All fuses that I can find seem okay. There is a fuse panel behind the glove box door to the right and did not find a bad fuse there.
I've located two separate boxes with circuit breakers under the hood and have not actually test any breakers or relays there.

Right now, I am going to go to my other shop and grab some tools, meters and a circuit tester. Can anyone help with ideas?? I am a bit in panic mode. This is our only "GOOD" car.

By the way, is there a separate fuel filter on these '13s beside the "strainer" in the tank? The manual says no.

Try disconnecting the battery at the negative terminal for 20mins and let the CPU 'reboot'...?!

I am experiencing a strong cranking but no start scenario with new to me '01. Runs great when it fires (drove 200miles flawlessly when acquired) but has a electrical gremlin causing intermittent starting issue (not reliable!!).
Since it runs well when fired, tells me fuel system is fine, more of a CPU/warm engine/electronic sensor/computer issue...

hope this helps, I am researching...

good luck!

Hello and thank you, Shannon.

This has been going on for months. Now, we got the X running and drove it to Alabama. It's warmer here and it has started with no problem so far.
Still haven't pinpointed the problem yet and wonder if it's ambient temperature-related.

I’m having sort of the same issue on my 02. It wouldn’t start for almost a week and then started fine drove it for another 2 weeks and then it started again. I was able to get it to start and idle by unplug the tps and maf I’ve replaced both and still having the same issues. Any advice would or direction to go would be great.

I have a 2000. I went to work this morning, fine, no problems. Left work, started without issue, sat there and sent one text. Maybe 1-2 minutes. It just died. Cranks but no happy ending. I had new dist. cap, wires, plugs, etc. last October.
Maybe I'll pull my cap and check the same thing.
Did you ever find a resolution?

Good morning, GodBrian and all,
I DID in fact find the problem. The quick answer is:
it was the ECM. You may have a different, less-expensive issue.
The long answer:
Afyerychanging out both cam sensors as well as the crank sensor, I bought a used one on eBay.
Still would not start. Finally had to send the damned thing to our Nissan dealership in Bangor, Maine. They replaced the 2 cam sensors and crank sensor with new OEMs. Still wouldn't start. Then, after a very close I section, they discovered one of the pins in the connector to the ECM was bent. That was all it took to fix the problem. They straightened the pin and it started with no problem. I trust that they have been honest with me as I was sure when I switched out the ECM, was careful to NOT bend any of the pins.
Anyway, a total of over $2,000, 2 separate tows, and my hauling the car home from Virgina to Maine on my car carrier, we finally got the car back on the road.
Let me know what you did to get yours running.
