Hey guys - wanna put out something that has been puzzling me for a bit on my 04' X. So just hit the 195k mark, and I replaced an old battery. Was in there for about 4 years, and had an awful amount of corrosion on the positive terminal. Got a new battery, cleaned up both the positive and negative terminals but actually ended up replacing the positive one that goes to the positive wiring. The corrosion was just so bad, that there wasn't much metal left. Replaced everything - good to go. One time last week I went to start it up, and immediately turned over the key and nothing happened. No lights, no clicking, nothing. Keyfob didn't even work - everything was dead in the water. Like something shorted out or was disconnected. Sure enough, I just didn't tighten the positive terminal screw back up tight enough. Again, no big deal, tightened it up, and I was on my way. No problems after that.

Today (has been raining all night and day), I started up the car, ran some errands and had no problems until I was about to drive home, and again, turned over key, no lights came on, no clicking, keyfob didnt work, etc. Again like something shorted out. Opened the hood, thought it couldn't be anything loose but I'd take a look. Nope, everything was tight and no corrosion. So I had no idea what was going on. Somehow, when I closed the hood, and tried to start it up again, it fired right up. Get home, turn it off, and then tried to fire it back up. Nothing. Couldn't even lock my car with the keyfob again, turn on lights etc. Went inside to let the dog out and then came back out, and tried starting it up, and the dashboard lights flicked rapidly on and off for about 3 seconds, and it fired right up. Let it sit for a bit (rain stopped), went out, keyfob worked, lights worked, and it starts no problems.

So what do you all think I'm looking at? A short somewhere? A fuse? Has the battery wiring gone bad (definitely have seen better days)? I had my spark plugs and distributor cap replaced about 10k miles ago, so I figured it wasn't that. Also mainly because nothing works - keyfob, no lights, etc when the problem does happen.

Curious to seem what y'all think - much appreciated

I think it's your battery terminal either not put on properly or a lose connection on the terminal. try putting some dielectric grease around the battery post to the terminal and make sure the terminal is around that post properly.

I have the same year with about the same mileage and had the same exact issues. I had to replace both terminals and actually had to cut back the wires to get a solid connection. Been working well so far. Hope it helps!

So far, I haven't had any more issues. Been raining a bunch still too, so that will probably be my next step if it acts up again. Replace the negative one and cut back on the wires. Appreciate it guys!

I was having intermittent starting issues as well. For about $30, I replaced the whole negative battery ground wire from battery to block (Genuine Nissan). While it was off I cleaned the body and block contact points with wire brush and cleaned up the very small exhaust manifold to body ground strap too. No more issues and seems to be starting up quicker as well.
