Engine Swap, DT Headers & an E-fan

Alright guys, after contemplating rebuilding my engine or just buying a new one, I found a smoking deal on a fully remanufactured long block and I jumped on it. $800 shipped, and it's already sitting in my garage. Here's what I've got:

Now here's what I'm planning on ordering, which is where I start to have a few questions. Please look this over and let me know what else I'll need, I could have easily missed something. The only thing not on this list that I plan on ordering is a new radiator (the s/c one), but I'll be getting it from 1-800-radiator.

Any and all help will be appreciated. I know this will be huge job, so I want to try and make sure I have everything before I dig in so I can avoid as many "oh shit" moments as possible. I plan to keep this thread updated as I go, so hopefully it will help someone else out later.

P.S. Here is the E-fan conversion that I am going to do. Page 8 has the actual DIY (I think you should be linked straight to it, but just in case).

Maybe the pic is just wrong, but the headers in the pic aren't for the first gens.

I actually already have the oil pan gasket set, one of the miscellaneous parts I've picked up over the years. Good call on the radiator hoses. I'll try to hunt down exactly which ones I need and post them back up here for confirmation.

I just recently rebuilt my distributor and replaced it with a new one. I realized that my problem wasn't the distributor a little too late. I still have both distributors.

I'll make sure to keep it covered, thanks for that advice!

Just ordered everything! $1,080 and change, plus the $800 I already spent for the motor. I'll post everything that I ordered on here in a bit. I'm headed out of town to make this a long weekend, so I'll probably do it when I get there.

I ended up ordering 9 individual coolant hoses for a total of $104 without clamps. That included the upper and lower radiator hoses that account for the BL that I'm also going to be installing with all of this. I was going to order the kit you suggested DejaBlue, but since I'm in AZ I would've had to pay 8.1% tax.. Thanks for the help everyone! I plan to continue to keep this thread updated once I get everything in and start to tear down my truck.

Okay everyone, I JUST got in the Doug Thorley's that I ordered over a month and a half ago (got them 7/25 after ordering 6/6.. So much BS that I didn't know about when I placed the order, but whatever. I plan on getting this mostly done tomorrow. I have a mechanic coming over to help me with a cherry picker.

:huepf-big:

Question time!

How do I go about attaching all of the timing components to the new engine? Will I need any special tools? Or will I have to find any torque specs? Also, will I need a special tool to attach the harmonic balancer? I'm not sure how much knowledge the mechanic I have coming will have, I just need him for a cherry picker and a little liability so if my truck doesn't start it's on him and not me to get it fixed.

Thanks in advance!

I used a strap wrench to hold the gears when I put all the timing stuff on.
You might need a harmonic balancer puller to get it off the old engine. There's two threaded holes in the front of it that if I remember right are 6x1mm threads but I'm not 100% on that, that you need bolts for to use the puller. Do not use a puller with the hooks that grab around the outside edge of the pulley, you will damage it. I know first hand hehe...
