check engine light!

I just saw that my check engine light came on and not sure what that means or need to do. someone told me that this can happen if gas cap in not on properly. I checked this and the light is still on.
what can i do.

Remember, the check engine light only comes on when your emissions are not regular. This is why when your gas cap is screwed in wrong, the light comes on. Note: That the engine light will continue to be on, even after you fix the gas cap. Mine didn't go off till I drove around 30 miles.

I also had the light turn on after I installed a new intake. The air calibration sensor came undone. You may want to check that as well.

it comes on solid when emissions or problem related to the vehicle. if it flasshes at your pull over because whatever is triggering it to flash is usually detrimental to the engine if you continue to drive it. It could be a loose gas cap. unscrew it and put it back on tight. If it stays on after 30 or so miles or 7 or more starts its not the gas cap mostlikely unless the gascap itself isnt holding the pressure in the tank and its letting pressure escape in which case it would need to be replaced. Take your X to autozone, advanced, oreillys or another autoparts store and have the codes read and let us know what it says. check your vacuum hoses going to and from the intake too. one may have com loose but 99% of the time a solid MIL light is due to an emissions problem

Take it to Autozone or somewhere similar and have the codes read. Report back here with the findings and we might be able to help.
