Axle flip in the rear..anyone done this?

Thinkin bout doing an axle flip in the rear on my 1st gen. i did the pml but i'm getting ready to go up more. i have a friend that does truck mods and knows what he is doing. But is it better to do a leaf pack or flip the axle under the leaf pack?

Most people only go SOA if they are SASing, to match the lift in the front. One guy has done it just with a 3" SL but he bought replacement leaf packs which rode a couple of inches lower than stock.

I could be wrong but I think the only way that guy matched it up with UCAs was with leaf packs that sat lower than stock, and with stock shackles. His name is M3C.CA

Casper will become famous soon enough
An SOA will give you just over 6 inches of lift over stock height with the stock leaf pack and nothing else. You can't make the front match without A) A new rear spring pack, or taking leafs out of the stock pack. Taking enough leafs out will result in a very weak pack. Or B) Custom front suspension, i.e SAS or???

Hope that helps.

If your buddy is a good fabricator it can be done to equal about 3" of lift. Although it requires he french the front mounts and possibly the rear. Its alot of work without alot of benefit but there area few nice perks to going spo. You dont hit the leaves as much or drag on your u bolt plate, you dont hit the front hanger which is massive. If you go through with this its a good time to swap to a longer leaf spring to get a better ride and few more inches of travel.

Good call midget, didn't even think about that one. If you go though all that, I would highly suggest going with a set of Chevy 63's. They flex way better and are cheap.

Yeah, another option would be to outboard the leaf springs to keep it low but thats a hole nother can of worms.
