Whats this on my intake?

Hello all. First timer here. I just bought a used 03 from a "new car dealer" So when I was under the hood at the dealer I missed this thing hanging off the intake tube.
Other than this thing, this truck has been great, I just fixed the oil leak coming from the loose passenger valve cover and I have been enjoying the ride.

Oh yeah, is there an inspection hole for the timing belt on the 3.0?

WOW, that's messed up! I would drive back there and ask them about it and suggest they replace it with an intake without the extra hole. Looks like they jerry rigged a way to plug that hole.

Welcome to CX!

Right? I think I will just take the tube out and put some duck tape over the hole. I have a feeling someone was trying to get this to pass smog and had some crazy idea? no idea.. that tube is all sealed/glued up so, I am not sure.

I have no idea what they were doing there as that is an intake resonator. Most of us have removed them from our trucks and blocked off the holes. http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2192

There is no inspection hole for the timing belt on the VG33 (3.3L) engines.

That is one gypsy-built looking setup. I would definately go over the rest of it with a fine tooth comb - and there are new plug wires too...monkeying with emissions?
Hmmmm....a mystery. Hope it has a happy ending!

Errr... after some HHO on the Googles... this might be what the previous owner was doing. I noticed some missing bolt on the resonator, and a missing bolt on the air box. Also judging by the hose clamps, the tubes that lead off to the valve covers have recently been tampered with. Well since I am in CA I wont be able to remove or alter any of the intake components due to SMOG inspection. I will have to pickup a new resonator or just black duct tape it closed.

Thanks for your help guys.

Looks like your brake fluid needs to be bled too. Kind of dark.

shame you can't do what all of us non Californians do. One plumbing plug and remove the resonator completely. [check the DIY on how to get the most out of your stock intake if curious]

I am guessing they were injecting alcohol, in an attempt to pass smog... It is dumb looking and done by some freakish person!
