Roof lights or brush guard lights

I just got my xterra and I want to put some light on n was wondering what would be better to get first brush guard lights or roof lights and is there a major difference between them and what would be more useful

That depends on what you are using them for.

I have roof mounted lights because where I drive the grass is many times 3-4 ft high. If I had lights on the grill guard it would shine into the grass (as my head lights do) versus over the top of the grass which is where I need to see. (yes, I have to stop every 30 minutes and clean the grass out of the radiator so the truck doesn't heat up)

If you are doing more slow trail riding and looking for rocks, ruts, etc than lights closer to the ground will be what you are looking for.

roof lights can wash out or alter presence of terrain features because of how they can "fill" light in low spots or depressions. As mentioned, low mounted lights can also cause more glare from reflection.

Best option is to have a mix, unless you always drive on one particular type of terrain.

Another thing to consider is ease of installation. Proper roof mounted lights require drilling the roof, and removing headliner. Front mount lights, just simply running wires to a switch in the cockpit. Most difficult part would be getting the wires through the firewall grommet.

I would opt for guard-mounted lights first... see if that does the trick for you.
