Roof Rack, Hi-Lift Jack Support

I wanted a place to mount my jack and I have seen other ideas on this forum so I decided to do a variation from that. I bought a couple of 6"-7" long 1/2" bolts, 6 washers, 2 nuts/lock washers, 3" long SS pipe(slide over the big bolt, acts as a spacer) and some easy to turn black plastic knobs with the nut built inside. First get an idea of where you want your jack, then drill a hole through the 2" aluminum rack tube. Place the bolt and washer through the back side, slide on washer, small piece of pipe, washer, lock washer and then nut. Make sure this is very tight. Next place jack on the first mount, then mark where you want the next bolt to be. Ideal to have one in the front and also in the back. Repeat process again. Place your new bolt mounts through the jack holes and then screw on black knobs. For safety reasons I would lock up the jack.

That is a really cool idea, using the stock rack to support the jack.

Definitely loads cheaper than buying a whole aftermarket roof rack. Just lock that thing up so no one comes by and takes it and you should be golden!

Sort of the same thing I did except a version for the basket.

You should get a lock on that thing, people will steal them in a heartbeat.

Otherwise, looks good.

Mine does have a lock through the rear bolt. As for the one posted for this thread he could add one the same way.

I have only had it on the roof when I go on a 4x4 trip but was thinking today how will I replace my flat tire without it. The stock sicsor jack probably won't help after the PML and larger tires added. I do plan on adding a lock. If I keep it on the roof all the time I have a feeling its going to rust out badly being exposed to the wet winters up here.

I had a piece of 4x4 wood about 10 inches long in my truck until I got my hi lift. I used a chisel to carve out a piece the same size as the top of the jack about 1/2" deep so it would sit on the top of the jack and not fall off constantly. But the hi lift is already there so you might as well carry with you.
