In 2010, my wife wanted a new car. With one child in college and another in high school, she was tired of the minivan that was 12 years old. She wanted a four wheel drive vehicle, and a REAL four wheel drive. After showing her a lot of different makes and models, we stopped at the Nissan dealer, and she decided the Xterra is exactly what she wanted. A few weeks later, she was on a trip with our youngest, and I went and bought her the Xterra as a surprise, with the color she wanted, etc. The only modification I have made is to replace the standard non-mp3 stereo with a decent Poineer with iPod and USB connections.
Between the two of us, there has always been a Nissan in the household. Her first one was with us for 15 years, and I still have a 1996 Nissan Pickup at home as wll. I tried a 2009 Frontier with the 4 cylinder for about 8 months, but traded the truck, because of the lack of power. Even my 1996 with auto was quicker.
So, two and a half years later, the Xterra has done 13k miles, and my wife enjoys it every time she drives it. We do not drive it that much, but then we keep our cars for a long time. In the spring, we will be going off-road to try the four wheel drive.
My only complaint on the Xterra - why isn't it available with a good 2.7 or 3.0L turbo diesel? Better fuel economy, and much better torque!
The reason to join the forum is simple. I do some maintenance on my cars myself, and having a forum with expertise knowledge is key to the process.
