Light mounting positions

I've got a pair of flood pattern lights and a pair of spot lights to install on my truck.

Are different mounting locations better suited to each type of light?

I was planning to put one pair on the front bumper and the other pair up on the roof rack. Which should go where, and why?

Sent from my StarTac

Yes there are fogs that scatter the light (short distance)

If you look at the PIAA site you will see each type of light.. Look at the lenses

Here's more info from the manufacturer about my lights and beam patterns:
http://www.grote.com/product.php?product_number=63571

Here are the two patterns I have, what I was calling flood isn't a super diffuse flood, they call it "trapezoid":

I just want to try and get the right lights in the right places for the right reasons. I'm looking for some technical guidance beyond "I think lights on the roof look badass".

pencil beans below eye level will reflect a lot of glare

floods up high may wash out features on a trail, if pointed down at too steep of an angle

The lenses on these lights are easily interchangeable.

Maybe I should just put 2 up on the rack and 2 on the bumper and then swap the lenses around to see what works best.

DUDe. Fogs up front. Long range up top.

That brand is interesting...never heard of them before. I would imagine their prices are higher than KC or Hella...

Yeah, they aren't cheap (if you pay retail). But they are built like tanks...

...the ones I got were originally spec'd for installation on Stryker armored vehicles.

Make sure you throw pics up when (if) you get them installed!

I will.

My main issue right now is figuring out how I'm going to power them. They are 24V so I'm looking at my step-up transformer options.

Here's a pair installed on a Heep:

For the money why not just go with HID's or more common LED light bar? Im all about doing things for the sake of originality but I dont see the advantages...

Your going to need 2 batteries im fairly sure and you will need a regulator to step down the voltage for things like the radio and heater/ac controls.

Unless you have easy access to that equipment I would look at other methods of lighting?
