No Reverse (auto transmission)

Hello,
2002 V6/Auto/2wd 246,000 miles. As far as I know the fluid was never changed in this vehicle. I've had it since it was nearly new.

Selector shifts through PRNDL just fine, drives forward and shifts through auto gears just fine. Put in reverse and you never feel it "engage" like you should. Give gas and RPM's rev but no movement at all. Fluid level looks ok, color is redish/brown not burned smelling at all.

I presume I have a toasted tranny, I'm trying to sell this and would disclose issue to new buyer but what are thoughts on following to at least get reverse working maybe:

1. use transmission fluid additives?
2. change filter/fluid (seems a bit late for this)

Other thoughts?

Thanks for the link, I'm going to take it to a transmission shop and get a diagnossis. I have it for sale and this really sucks, it went from a 3500-4000 vehicle to salvage pretty much. But we shall see what they say.

I followed the steps above to the letter, when complete I don't get any flashes.

Well 21.00 for the kit plus fluid may not hurt I guess....cheaper than diagnostic.
