2002 Xterra AC not cold and leak when AC is on

hey guys, i'd appreciate if you could help me out with my dilemma. my uncle recently brought our 2002 xterra to the repair shop because our AC wasn't feeling cold and i feel we got ripped off. can you guys help me out here and maybe tell me what the problem actually, how much it should actually cost, and how to fix it?

they replaced this pipe for $150 or so as they said it was cracked.

here is a closeup.

they charged $130 for something called a valve and then $225 for something called a canister, and then $180 for "evac and recharge ac." they also charged $140 for "cleaning of the fuel injectors, decarbonization of the throttle plate, intake plenum, intake and exhaust valves, piston heads, and idle bypass circuit, and inspection of the engine vacuum and fuel pressure systems"

after leaving, we noticed that stuff started leaking from the sponge, located underneath the passenger side's dashboard. if you touch the sponge, it's wet. the air conditioning still isn't cold.

they claimed that dirty things like leaves were getting in through here and causing liquid to build up.

now they want $600 to clean the evaporator.

i feel like I'm getting completely ripped off here. how can I fix this and how much money should I demand back from them? thanks for your help guys.

first the a/c should be working at that price. you can clean the leaves and change filter under the dash your self

yeah your getting hosed.. but it is very possible those mechanics dont have a clue! AC get kinda tricky if you dont know your physics.
where do you live I might be able to point you to a decent mechanic
