Help with speakers problem

Long question and I just bought my 2004 Xterra. Im 'green" to all this so please bare with me since its all so new to me.

one of my pillar speaker or tweeter is blown out in my car. and Im not sure what to do about it. should I

1) disconnect the broken pillar speaker and then just leave it alone?

2) replace the pillar speakers and leave the rest alone?

or 3) replace all the speakers in the car to upgrade it? what size speakers do I get?

if I go with 2 or 3 do you recommend any speakers for me on a limited budget (Im a college student)? Im looking at anywhere from 50-150 total for the front, rear, and pillar speakers. I have no idea what to get and don't want to buy the wrong speakers, or buy the right speakers in the wrong size.

Can I replace the speakers myself? how do I go about doing it, are there any videos online showing me how to do it?

The front door speaker are 6.5" COMPONENT speakers. Meaning the door speakers are just a 6.5 woofer cone...not the kind with the built in tweeter (baby speaker) built into the same speaker.

When you buy a component set of speakers, they come with separate woofers and tweeters. The problem is that the tweeters are often difficult to install and make it look clean...they will be a surface mount type tweeter and probably won't fit the same location in the A-pillar.

I got a set of Rockford Fosgate R 165s components from Amazon for about $65 and I like them a lot. I did not use the tweeters that came with it, though.

I would probably try to find a junkyard or ebay and buy a replacement tweeter, and then upgrade the front door speakers anyway....or try to engineer a way to use the tweeters that come in a component set

I ended up getting the R165x3 speakers heres the link: and separate set of rockford tweeters. but I ran into the problem you mentioned. I have no idea how to mount and wire the speakers. but I figure I can just make the hole where the old tweeters were slightly bigger to make them fit in the existing location. I have a few ideas on how to make it work but Im not sure can I private message you to run through some of my ideas to see if they would work?

Well...since you got the 3-way speakers...you already have tweeters playing the high notes. So you really don't need separate tweeters in the A-Pillar. I may just disconnect the A-Pillar tweeters and check and see how they sound. The A-pillar tweeters would be playing the same notes that the 2 small tweeters on your door speakers are.

But yes...you can shoot me any PMs if you have any ideas. Actually...I welcome it. I still have my tweeters, so maybe you will motivate me to get them installed!
