I don't know how the factory stereo looks like, since my didn't come with a stereo. I have an aftermarket pioneer, and it can't display both the time and track/station at the same time.
I also like to have a thermometer for outside and inside temp. I picked up a super cheap unit at Ebay for 10$. It works well so far, let me know what you think of the install.
The temp sensor cable wasn't long enough to pull through the firewall, so for now I pulled it under the dash, out the driver door and mounted it in a protected area behind the fl wheel house. I'll see if I can extend the cord and pull it better.
I pulled the cables for the sensor and power trough the center "hole" next to the lighter. I have tried to use double sided-tape to mount accessories in the past, but it just doesn't hold up with the temperature here in Las Vegas, even if I buy the "super ultra strong" one. So, I measured out the center which happened to be on the battery cover and gorilla glued a nut. I put the nut through the hole with some washers, a grommet for the cables and a nut on the inside holds it up. If I need to replace the battery I can just slide the unit off the cover.
I cut the power cables which came with a lighter chord and tapped into the lighter cords behind the dash, so the cables are hidden behind the stereo.
The display came with green back-light and blue back-light (was supposed to be orange and blue... eBay..), I like blue the best as it doesn't sting my eyes even at nighttime.
The clock and temp is visible with the car off. Back-light and volt-meter is visible on radio mode/ignition.
What do you think for 10 bucks?
