So I just refilled it and to my surprise the magnets didn't have hardly any shavings... It has got 176k miles on it. But I put in the lsd additive 4 ounces of it the bottle says 4 ounces for 1.x quarts or something but anyways I just put only 1 in so It would perform better and before it hardly locked but it did. once it was locked it locked it was just getting it to lock which was sometimes hard. Now it locks a lot better I will say but still not what I thought it would be like. By the way the old oil when drained was gooey it was old old old. Its a 00 so it has the better lsd. Once it locks though it works great but its hard to get it to lock. I'm thinking its time for new clutches to be put in but id like not to have to pull the axle out its my dd. Ive been thinking about getting an open carrier and welding the spider gears to function like a locker. Any thoughts on how to improve the initial locking?
Ironically, the way the LSD works, is, it STARTS WITH THE PLATES LOCKED.
The DIFFERENCE between the two sides are what eventually overcomes the plates' grip, and breaks the grip.
So, going around a corner for example, the plates are turning in unison...until the outside tire having to go farther around the same turn than the inside tire, causes enough of a torque on the plates that they let go, and, the outer tire is allowed to go faster (To differentiate).
That torque is called the break away torque (BAT). The higher the bat, the more force it takes to get the plates to lose their grip on each other...and the more they can take before un-locking.
So there's no "Getting it to lock"...it started locked, or, it doesn't work at all.
Ok thanks for explaining tj I will probably be in soon for packing the lsd. id like it to function a bit better.
