I was just recently in an accident with my 2003 X and it was totaled. Thankfully no major injuries except for me breaking my thumb. Anyways, I still have that X-bug in me and I want another xterra. My question to everyone is. What year 1st gen auto transmission is best. I have heard from random sources that up until a certain year that the auto transmissions used in the xterra said were not very durable. Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me?
5spd 4x4s are hard to find. Too many pansy soccer moms and dads around here. My 03 was a 5sp. If I find a 5sp I will get it but I may be stuck with auto.
The auto Trans is fine. Strong enough to pull a tandem axle trailer full of firewood. Enough firewood that it bent one of the trailer axles. Pulled it 25 miles fine up and down hills. The autos are not weak..
Really!? That's good to know. I miss my xterra. It's the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It sucks that It was totaled. I can't wait to get money saved up to purchase another one.

Beckinsale, stop hunting for victims on an auto mechanic site. Stick to your normal places, than you.
