Im moving down to Florida later this month and I was wondering how strict the laws are for vehicles. I read up on them a little bit and they seem to be more strict than virginia, can you really not mess with the exhaust to make it louder? And do they actually enforce them?
I haven't really made and modifications on my X besides taking the mud flaps and steps off but I wanted to eventually do a PML and a 2" body lift, which I wouldn't think would make it illegal but I just wanted to check with people who knew. Also if it helps I'm moving to palm harbor right outside of Tampa. Thanks in advance.
I'm not too sure about florida emission laws but I live in Cali and no one has stricter laws for smog and emissions than we do and you can mod your exhaust here to a point. talk to a local muffler shop and they can help you best.
I used to live in Daytona Beach years ago. Back then there was no vehicle inspection requirement (unless it was a commercial vehicle), and you were even allowed to operate home made vehicles as long as they met minimum insurance and equipment / safety requirements. The laws can be found online. I did a search and found this:
I live in Florida and the general rule is do pretty much whatever you want.
I've seen mud trucks (tractor tires and all) plated and driving on the street and my bike is loud as hell.
No emission testing here anymore.
You're going to have fun. Keep you're headlights less that 54" from the ground, and you're good
