I am looking into building my own oem-fit subwoofer box for the back (factory sub box location) in my 2010 X. My truck only came with the standard (non rockford fosgate) system with 6 speakers and I will be upgrading all the speakers as well as the deck and adding some amps as well. I've seen the JL Audio "Stealthboxes" but they are way too expensive for my tastes so i would like to make my own. Has anyone here built their own to fit in the factory location and do you have any drawings or measurements that I could possible get a copy of to start with?? Thanks for the help.
i did one using all fiberglass. MonsterBandit is going to make one this spring/summer. for the cost of fiberglass ... between the mat, resin and bondo it was roughly $250.

yes ur right JL Audio "Stealthboxes" are too much $$$$$ i did my own sorry pics are dark.I just cut the net off then just cover the side panel with tape and a aluminum, i had this 1 12sub box that was give'n to me and some fiberglass & beers later and i have my own box soon to be done this weekend.I know its kinda ugly it was my 1st time making a sub box.
i built a custom sub enclosure for 2 12's that fit snug right up again the back row of seats. if you want pics, ill try and post some..but heres the general diagram..
edit...so the diagram fell apart after i posted it..
okay..so i have an 08 xterra with a full redone soundsystem..
basically built the box out of mdf, didnt end up porting it because it sounded good without. id suggest getting shallow mount drivers, so they are more lopro. Anyways, the setup i have is pretty nice to have and also have room for things in the back. the box isnt a square, but more of a trapezoid? box front, but with a longer bottom piece and a shorter top? the top piece of wood overhangs on the back so it protects the amps incase the box decide to move, also allows for easy amp access. I think i had a cubic foot and a half for each driver? ill figure out the dimensions i used..
mine is completely MDF but sadly its not constructed very well (i suck...lol) that is why i'm re-building with fiberglass this spring/summer...i need to do a full overhaul of the sound system so i can get it where i want it with matching components etc...but it wasnt too bad to make it out of MDF you just need a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" MDF a tape measure, liquid nails, lots of screws, a friend, some beer, a circ saw, a jig saw (one that works...mine didnt so my box is all circ saw cuts...its not pretty)...mine is completly sealed so i used two tubes of liquid nails...one for all the joints and one for the inside of the box for the seams...if you know anything about fiberglass i would strongly suggest going that route only because at the stealthbox design the MDF wont hold up very well for very long...hence my rebuild...but good luck and def post up some picks when you're done
I am pretty good with Fiberglass boxes. im looking to build a fiberglass stealth box fro my 03' X to fit a Kicker CompVT and my 800 watt Sony Xplod amp and mount it on the rear panel in the back of my X. not sure if I want to do the driver side or passenger side yet, also want to add a custom grill to give it a custom look but keep a factory look to it and relocate my rear speakers to the rear doors
I know this is old as dirt but are there any pics of this installed?
