The 2000 Xterra is getting moch better fuel mileage since it put better tires on an had it aligned.
The Xterra is a 2000 XE 2wd 3.3 V6, auto, Ratio- 4.63.
Tires are Pathfinder Sport S A/T 30 /9.50 R15 104S C1 OWL. They are a 6 ply rated tire. Tire pressure I am running is 40 psi.
I cannot believe the mileage. I thought it was wrong, but I checked it three times. The best I got to date is---19.6 mpg. I thought this was not possible. The lower two were very close. They were 19.1 and 18.7 mpg. The way I got 19.6 was on level road and keeping a constant 45mph. as much as possible.
I add Lucas EFI cleaner to my vehicles from time to time. It seems to help. The idea is add it to three tanks and then every other tank. The stuff actually pays for itself in better gas mileage.

I've learned that fuel additives work for some, do nothing for others, and can (but rarely) make it worse. It varies a lot from vehicle to vehicle, driving conditions, etc. If its working for you thats awesome! But just be aware it doesn't always, so watch your mileage after trying it.
I forgot to mention that I only got 16.2 mpg with the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S. They were also 30-9.5-15's.
Today I just filled up again and today I got 20.12 mpg. I drove 375 miles on the tank. Before changing out the tires I could only average 298 miles to a tank. I believe it will get close to 23 mpg if I just stay on the highway. Overall I am very pleased. I should of replaced the tires a long time ago.
I believe it - it makes me wonder how people get 13-14. Must be behind in maintenance and/or hitting the gas too hard.
I'm lifted around 4 inches, front and rear bumpers, 33s, and I get over 18 going between 55 and 75. Bet I could hit 20 no problem going 55. Although I have intake, headers, muffler, synthetic oils, etc.

The single most common reason for "13 mpg reports" are the simple effect of the larger diameter tires making their speedometer and odometer wrong.
IE: My 2001 came with 29" tires....and I swapped on 33's....that made my speedometer say I was going 65 mph when I was really going ~ 74 mph...and mpg IS worse at 74 mph...aerodynamics being what they are, etc.
It also made the odometer say I went only 258 miles when I really went ~ 300 miles, and so forth...
So, people are driving much faster, and, going more miles, than they thought they were....
The 265-70-15 tires and 30-9.5-15 tires are roughly the same size. (Within one tenth of an inch). The speedometer on my Xterra is dead on from what the GPS reads. The mileage I'm posting are as close to true readings one could get.

And, you are NOT saying you are getting 13 mpg....
See the pattern mentioned vs the pattern observed?

Even the same sized tires can give different mpg. Its mostly about the rolling resistance. Some tires require more energy to form and reform as they roll along...imagine a steel hoop that stays a perfect circle vs a tank tread that makes an oval shape as it rolls, etc....to hoop will get better mpg than the tank tread.
Tires with thinner and softer rubber, etc, tend to roll more easily. A hwy tire will be softer and take less energy to roll than an all terrain, and an all terrain will tend to roll more easily than a mud terrain, and so forth.
So, you now have tires with less rolling resistance.
TJTJ, Thanks for the input. I understand everything you written. This tire is manufactured by Kumho, for Discount Tire Direct. The Kumho tread code is KL61. It is more of a hybrid design. (a cross between a highway and all-terrain tire)
So far I am impressed with the road manners of these tires. The Xterra is much more stable and responsive at highway speeds with these tires. We will see how they wear. I don't need a true all-terrain tire so I decided to try these out. If I spent time off-roading than I would of went for something else. The only off-roading was a couple times on level crushed stone or hard packed dirt roads to get to a boat ramp. The reason I purchased a 2wd is I knew I would not need a 4wd Xterra. And honestly, most people only need a 2wd. So, I feel this choice of tire will most likely fit my needs fine.
