New member from New Orleans. Glad to be aboard. Have a 2003 Xterra six cylinder. Replaced timing belt, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, radiator, all belts and all hoses in April 2013. Now in July of 2014, the truck runs hot when the A/C is on. Turn off the A/C and the gauge goes back to normal. Truck only has 76,000 original miles. Rarely used and changed the above parts as preventive maintenance. Weird, runs hot only when A/C is on. Any suggestions. Thanks, Jed

Welcome. Do a search for your problem- there should be a number of threads discussing.

The sensor for the dash gauge may be bad....there's a second temp sensor the ECU uses that you can read through the OBD port, and that one is more reliable.

When it says its over heating, do the OBD port measurement, and see if it agrees or not. If the OBD says its not over heating, then its the dash's gauge that's off, and you're NOT overheating.

Sometimes merely turning on electrical stuff (AC would count) will trigger it to see a higher temp on the dash - but the AC is a fairly reliable gauge trigger.

If the coolant temps seem to change rapidly, say a visible swing in temp on the dash gauge...its typically a sensor, not the actual temperature changing...as coolant changes its temp slowly, not rapidly.

:D
