Got out to fill my tank today got back in to discover my seat belt is locked. I tryed pulling hard nice and easy everything possible and its just flat out stuck. Now wondering if there is a fix for it? Or do I need a new one? Really really just need a temporary fix so I don't get a ticket I'm strapped on cash and can't afford it now so is it possible to take if apart and just get the belt to go around? And how much do these seat belts run are they hard to put in or it a thing I just gotta figure it out by taking it apart.
There's an inertia lock inside it...so if braking hard, etc, or leaning forward to adjust the radio, etc, it locks.
If it sticks in the locked position, typically, you unbolt it from the rig, and try rotating it until the lock opens again.
A hard knock or violent motion is what LOCKS IT - so, typically, you are GENTLY rotating it while doing soft pushes/tugs on the belts to see if its still locked or not.
If it won't lock, it won't work as a seat belt, so, from a safety perspective, you should replace it if you can't get it working reliably.
I have gotten several stuck ones unstuck though, none were mine, so I can't swear they stayed working/failed again or not.
A junkyard might be a good place to find a replacement if you need one cheap though.
This morning it came out a little bit more. I kept gently pulling it and got enough to come out to put it on so gonna take it out and take a look at it. I had just never seen what they look like inside. But as of now it's super sensitive and locking for no reason. I'm assuming either dirt or something got in it or its just broken.
