SOLVED: Urgent: ABS Diagnostics 2000 X

*******Problem Solved*******

I have come across SO many threads about people posting problems, ans NEVER returning to say if they ever fixed them or how. Why post is the first place if you are going to get help and not say what worked? That is selfish...

Hey all,
Got some issues trying to diagnose ABS codes on my Gen-1 Xterra.

Had a mechanic try a few years ago, and the codes kept going in circles and they couldn't fix it so I let it go.

Now I need the inspection completed ASAP and had it to another mechanic and they too, are having issues.

ABS light is on.
Here are some codes:
17
25
31
61

They can't seem to clear the code (light) according to the clear code procedure. I believe this is due to the initial resistance check of the diagnostic system.

Please help. I need the inspection sticker on NOW !

Cape

EDIT 2: Both rear sensors have no continuity. Font sensor checks fine.

17 is the g sensor, its under the armrest, $130ish from a dealer. Might want to try a yard. 26 isn't valid but there is 25 which is the front left sensor. 31 is rear right sensor. The system is dynamic and resets every time you start the car and drive for a bit.

Just in case you didn't already know: The code read / erase procedure is on page BR-41 through BR-42 of the FSM, just in case the clear code procedure that is being followed is incorrect. FSM states "a maximum of three code numbers appear in the order of the lowest to highest", so maybe the reason the light stays on is that there are other problems that haven't been corrected yet.

miskywhisky is spot on regarding the code numbers. They can all be found on page BR-48

Which "armrest" ? The one on the driver's door or the center console ?
I will assume he just counted wrong or wrote the wrong one on the piece of paper for 25.

For the erase-code procedure, what position should the key be in ?

We tried to erase the codes but they would not erase to see which ones would return in what order. Know what I mean?

Page BR-31 and -32 show component location. There's a pic of the G sensor "with center console removed" on page BR-31.

Yeah, what is your definition of "ON" ?

First position, Second, or truck started ?

BR-32 makes it look like it (G sensor) is in the engine bay, forward of the brake boost and warning light (instrument panel)

It says ON right on the ring around the switch. The ON position is before the START position per Nissan. There's a picture in your owner's manual of the positions.

So does anyone know why the codes won't erase ? We tried the erase code procedure (grounding 3 times within 12 sec) but it seems they won't clear.

Also, the picture for the G-sensor in the manual makes it look like it is forward of the brake boost.

The pic of the G-sensor you want is on page BR-31, titled "view with center console removed". It's right next to the air bag diagnosis sensor unit.

That's where it is. I tested mine a few times and it works every time. I replaced the rear wheel speed sensors. and then I replaced the abs unit. I t-pin the obd port and ground it 3 times to erase the codes.
