2002 Misfiring Cylinder 2

Hey All!

So my baby has a misfire. Ran the code p0302 cylinder 2 misfire.

It started out as just a misfire while at a low idle ie in drive and stopped.
It would go away as i started to drive but then once stopped it would come back. That was yesterday.

Today it started out the same then about half way into work I started to feel it constantly. Now i feel like i am driving a cam'ed out lawn mower lol. And it sure as heck sounds like it too.

I'm thinking of replacing the distributor cap, wires, spark plugs and even the sensors since i'm already going to be doing the rest. I have value gaskets to replace while i'm at it too.

Is there anything else i should be checking on? Which NGK sparks plugs should i be picking up? I heard the bkr5es11's seem to last longer. I just want to make sure as i'm not all that familiar with spark plugs.

As far as longest lasting, you got me but those are the plugs I run. If the plug wires, cap, and rotor have not been changed recently it's not a bad idea.

Plan sounds pretty good to me. If it turns into a random multiple misfire then check the distributor for metal shavings. But since your consistently getting the misfire on cylinder 2 it could easily be any other part of the spark system.

Apply dirt liberally, rinse and repeat

if its dedicated to a cylinder its probably the plug/wire connection. you'll see carbon tracking on the wire boot and plug when you take it apart. Make sure you blow air in the spark plug wells before you remove the plugs to get an dirt out prior to removal.

2002 XTerra World Champion Edition Cylinder Misfire

Hi,

I too am facing this misfire issue in my 2002 XTerra world championship edition. Can anyone let me know how much it would cost to get this fixed. Thanks.
