I noticed a rough idle when leaving the house the other day and decided to turn around. Before i could get home my service engine soon light came on so i hit the local auto parts and had it scanned. It said knock sensor and misfire in no. 2. Is the misfire related to the knock being bad or is this a seperate issue?? Just want to make sure so i can remedy the problem asap. Thanks in advance for any help.
Don't worry about the knock sensor code, that's not why the SES light is on. The misfire code and rough idle probably has something to do with your distributor-wires-or plugs.
Thats kinda what i have gathered from some other posts. Im guessing that the knock code might have just been in the history and the mis fire is what kicked it. Guess i will start with plugs and wires, it hasnt had new ones so its over due. Any advice on the plug by the firewall??? And is the distributor a pain if i need to do that?? Thanks again for your help
I had this exact thing happend. I replace the cap and rotor, and replaced the plugs and wires...well, some of them. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to reach #6...
get a stool len over ngine (lay on it and you can get to it

The distributor is easy to replace but it costs around $250. Just had to replace mine a couple days ago. Your best bet would be to just replace the distributor cap and rotor first, which will be about $30 and very easy to do.
I was just reading about that number 6 plug, I think the best way is plug socket>6" extension>universal joint>12" extension>ratchet. Once its almost fully unthreaded use an old plug wire boot to pull it out and also to put the new one in.
Wish I wouldve found all that out myself beforehand, I had to take it to a mechanic a pay a half hour labor to get the damn thing lol.
To get the one in the back get a stool lay on the plenum put the socket with a six in extension then attache the universal joint then a ten inch extension to undo. Careful not to drop it.
