Nah, you'd just wire your 12V stuff off of one battery. (But a 2 battery setup would still have it's wiring/charging issues)

Look at it this way, big rigs do the same thing for the 12v accessories. Pull them off of *one* battery rather than the full battery pack setup

I’m going to run a pair of small 12/24v DC step up transformers to power only the lights. Should be easy enough once I decide on the right one. Amazon.com has plenty to choose from.

i thought the LED lights had a built in regulator to be powered with either 12 or 24 volts....i am sure i read that somewhere

It depends.

The lights I have are available in 12v, 24v, and 12/24v. Mine are the 24v version.
