Flywheel/Clutch Question

I have a 2001 Xterra XE, V-6, 4WD 5 spd with 320,000 miles. Yes, it is time for a new clutch. I've been getting a few quotes for replacement because it is now way too cold to be playing outside on my driveway. Some quotes were reasonable until I went to my local Nissan dealership. He quoted me $1700-$2250. After having a few episodes of potty mouth with him, I calmed down & listened to his reason. Apparently Nissan may have put a dual mass flywheel in there which increases the cost significantly. He states that they cannot tell until they drop the trans.

I realize dual mass flywheels are costly, but to say you don't know until you drop the trans sounds like bull! I would think that a VIN number & a little research would clear things up. This sounds like going on a date & not knowing what you got til you lift a skirt!

Before I become Bubba's best friend, can somebody educate me? Is the dealer playing me or is he right? Can a dual mass flywheel be replaced with a single or is there too much drive line vibration to consider this option? Thanks in advanced for any help.

I would take it to Clutch Mart or Clutch Pros, or another reutable clutch shop.
Look, it held up forever, they will resurface it, put in a new pilot bearing, clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Most will check the input shafft for bearings from pilot shaft to main shaft wear and suggest changing, if needed.
Have them change the trans and transfer case with synthetic oils.
