Valve Cover Bolts

Does anybody know what size tap I need for the valve cover bolts holes? I changed out the valve cover seals on the passenger side and I either got some RTV in the threads or stripped them and now I hve 2 screws that do not want to go in.

It's a 2001 Xterra 3.3l I believe

Yep, M6x1.0 and the bolts themselves are 25mm.

Did you have to change out the seals because of leaking? My wife's just started leaking on the passenger side and I'm trying to figure out if I can just change the gasket or if there is something else wrong.

Probably just the gaskets are old and hard. Easy to replace and is fairly common as a leak generator.

Also just try hand tightening them first as they are known to come loose. Don't put your shoulder into it or anything cause its just aluminum.
