Ok I had to disconnect the battery to install the GPS housing on my 2008 Xterra. Now the VDC off/Slip light stay on. I drove around for 20 minutes like the manual said but it did not reset. Should I give it some more time?

Pull your Xterra to an area where you can drive straight ahead without turning the wheel for a couple hundred feet. Have the wheel straight. Turn off engine.
Restart engine and pull straight ahead in drive. Light should go off in a couple hundred feet.

The book is not too clear on this. I believe this will work for you.

Just to follow up, in case any else is like me and has the same issue, I tried this suggestion and it worked brilliantly.

I drove my 2005 xterra to an area where my wheels were straight, disconnected my negative battery cable, reinstalled the cable, started the car and drove straight for about 100 yards and the lights went OFF! Thanks for the suggestion!

I installed a siren and emergency light bar over the weekend and had the same problem with my VDC and Slip light. Without reading anything about it I was driving, put it in N, turned off the engine, restarted it... back in D and no lights. :) Had to remove the bumper cover, grill, and headlight to mount everything... Had my first emergency run last night and everything worked great!

While driving my 2005 Xterra on the highway, I felt a loss of power (acceleration), so I moved closer to the lane near the shoulder because I wasn't really sure what was going on. I had to drive on the shoulder, the xterra speed was at a very slow pace about 20 mph..I slowly crept along until I got onto a street, then it went to 5 to 10 mph..finally I pulled over to call a tow truck. The engine was quiet like in an idle, and eventually I heard a metal like sound(which is why I pulled over). The tow guy said as he backed it off the tow truck to drive it in the driveway, he noticed the right front wheel was held back (as he called it) and the steering wheel had a slight tug...but when he test drove out of the driveway for me to check it; it didn't do the same again. Can you tell me what this could mean. Also the VCD, Slip, and O/D off lights were on.

You may have hit the O/D button on the gear shifter and this is more than likely why your O/D (overdrive) light is on...as for the VDC/OFF and Slip Light, try the earlier suggestions in the threads above and if those do not work, you may have to bite the bullet and have Nissan reset the sensors on the steering column.

Hope this was helpful

This doesn't work for my situation. My problem occurred after taking it through a "Mighty-Wash" car wash while in neutral and being pulled along through the wash. After coming out of the wash, the "VDC Off" and "Slip" lights are on and I have absolutely no throttle. I am able to coast at idle speed of maybe 5 mph. This happened to my wife a year ago at another Mighty-Wash, she was able to coast into an oil change facility and a gentleman opened the hood and reset something but she doesn't know what he did, it just worked.
Now I'm having the exact same issue.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT COME ON AND OFF AND SOMETIMES WHILE ON THE 2010 XTERRA HEISTATES TO START AND THE SLIP AND VDC OFF LIGHTS GO ON OR SOMETIMES WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE NOT ON THE THE CAR HESITATES/DECELERATES AND THE LIGHTS COME ON. ONCE THE CAR LOST POWER COMPLETELEY AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS CAME ON. I PULLED OVER ON A STRAIGHT LINETURNED THE CAR OFF AND THE CAR HESITATED BUT STARTED. I THINK THERE IS SOME KIND OF REAL ISSUE THAT JUST HAVING THE LIGHTS RESET IS NOT GOING TO BE ENOUGH. ANY ADVICE?
