I have a 2007 xterra and I would like to put a third row seat. Has anyone done this or had any experiences to share?? I see the seats for order online, but the dealer says they do not carry them. Thanks!!

The back of an Xterra was never designed to carry passengers. Any rear end collision would result in the death of anyone back there. Please do not do it. If you must have a third row sell your truck and buy something with a third row.

yea and plus the third row will have to sit higher then the other two rows without added head clearance

I think you guys have forgotten about Reverse Seating. :) There are some aftermarket seats that you bolt down to face backwards behind the second row where people climb in and out of the back lift-hatch. This utilizes the current safety structure built into the second row roof structure and could be fine if bolted down correctly. Headrest support and seatbelt anchoring would be my primary concerns. Most of those have seatbelts anchored to the seats.

Just keep in mind that no aftermarket seating has been crash tested in the Xterra so you will be outside the factory safety specs if riding people back there and you're setting yourself up for a huge liability, especially while onroad.

I'd have to second the opinions to just get a Pathfinder or Armada and Lift the hell out of it if you want offroad capabilities. I don't know of anything bigger than a 2" Mini-Lift for the 2005 and newer Pathfinders but I do know how to get an Armada lifted 6"-11" although I wouldn't suggest more than a 6" SL with 3" BL that would cost only around $3k total if you install it all yourself. :D

Another bad thing about this mod is where you are going to store your recovery gear, tools, spare parts, camping stuff, cooler, etc. after you put the seat back there?

Thanks for that link Creepy, now I get the picture.
I could see where seats like that would be useful when you aren't driving in real traffic.
Down on a farm, or moving people around an RV park, places where the speed is usually very slow and the distance is short.

I'm just glad I grew up in an era when the first thing you did when you bought a new car was tuck the seat belts under the seat. As a youngin' I rode down the entire east coast from St. Johns Newfoundland to Nantucket, MA then on to Key West, FL standing between the front seats of my parents square back VW. Imagine doing that now and you'd end up on headline news.

there was a custom crawler featured in Offroad Adventures Magazine a while ago that had 2 rows of racing seats and then one in the rear just above the rear axle, of course protected by the custom roll cage....i dont know if i'd want to sit in it on a steep climb or anything, but it did seem to be one of the safer ways of doing it
