Hello everyone, this is my first post on these boards and I'm glad I found this site! I've been lurking for a while and I've searched for an answer to my question but haven't found an answer. I have an 06 Xterra Off Road with 96000 miles on it, we bought it a few months ago and love it!
I noticed the other day that the oil pressure gauge is reading very high-it's at the top of the gauge when the engine is running and it doesn't move with engine RPM or temperature. If you turn the key to ON it stays just below the H mark on the gauge, but as soon as you start the engine it jumps to the top of the gauge. The engine oil level is normal and I just changed the oil and filter about 300 miles ago. What do you guys think, I'm kind of stumped on this one!
Thanks for any advice!
Me thinks that sunshinelehua is a spammer that is stealing other posts in order to sell Louis Vutton Handbags. While they go great with an Xterra, I don't think that we need to suffer through the advertising...
Thanks for the replies guys, my thought was the sensor too but not getting a check engine light is what I couldn't figure out. I'll look into replacing the sensor, according to the FSM it should be pretty easy, has anyone else done theirs?
I have the same problem with my 2006. Only difference is the gauge jumps to the highest position when I turn the key without starting the engine and stays at highest position after engine is started. Does this still sound like sender problem?
As an update-I fixed my gauge by installing a new sensor months ago. The gauge functioned normally for about 6 months and then started reading super high again-I'm pretty sure it's the sending unit again as it reads max pressure as soon as you turn the key. Any ideas on what could be causing the sending unit to fail so regularly?

It's usually the oil pressure sensor I just had the same issue replaced it and it was fine needle dropped right back to the middle took like ten minutes cost 90.00
