I ordered one of these for my 2011 Xterra as I wanted just a little taller ride height and be able to clear 33" tires. I haven't been able to locate any photos of this system before and after. Has anyone here run this system?

I aint seen anything about this kit. Didn't even know pro comp was making kits for the xterra but 2 things

1: you'll be able to fit 33s because 33s fit on a second gen. stock with just the melt mod, so itll give you a nice stance

2: Its a pro comp kit and pro comp makes good stuff.... I looked at the kit and think you'll be fine. don't sweat it

I can't really help with any pictures, Im not rolling in a 2nd gen lol

good luck and post some picts when u get it put it on

Thanks, I'll post up some pictures as soon as its done. The kit will be here tomorrow and a shop nearby is going to do the installation. I couldn't find many lifts for the Xterra, there were a couple others but they had the same amount of lift for a crazy amount of money. I know ProComp has a good reputation and I'm not really looking to do any hardcore offroading. I like the looks of the added height plus the small amount of lift in the back should help keep me from hitting my head on the rear hatch when the gate is open. My next step is tires. Looking to do an all terrain and had very good luck with the BFG but was also recommended the General Grabber all terrains which have a similar tread pattern. Thinking of going with 295-75-16, using my stock wheels since I think they are the coolest looking wheels that come from the factory.

cool,cool

On those tires have u thought about a 285/75/16 (which is like a 33x10.50)
vs those 295s.... either one of those sizes are going to be expensive cause there a metric

check out a size by size on the calculator (it has the 285 listed as just under a 33 but it varies from manufacture to manufacture and most lean on or just over the full 33 inches)

That's not a bad price for all those components actually. Your Pro4x suspension should be good with that for quite a while; at which point you can start installing module mods to get even more out of it

33s fit really nicely into a 2nd gen. I had to do some minor trimming myself, but that's because I got after market wheels with very little backspacing. I think my offset is -10. Stock wheels won't have a problem with 33s, you will want to do the melt mod to push the plastic of the inner well out of the way so it doesn't rub on compression. It will probably turn fine and not rub stationary or when turning at a slow rate, but on a hill or a faster turn you'll get some rub without it.

But this is how 33s first came out on my X:

Good luck, and definitely post some pics!

Revu thats a nice looking xterra, looks a lot like mine, same color and all. Is yours lifted at all in that pic or is that with 33's on stock ride height?

I cant remember if I posted pictures on here of my vehicle as it is stock or not. Will try to find some pics when I get back later today.

I found some really nice bumpers that I want to get down the road when my budget allows for it.

Thanks a lot!

Yeah in that picture I had the Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Shocks in the front set to 2" of lift, and the PRG AALs in the back for another 2" there.

The aftermarket bumpers like the one from Shrockworks are really awesome. Since it does add some considerable weight in the front if you ever do get one you may consider upgrading your springs to heavy duty ones like these: Rocky-Road
or eventually do a coil-over setup. That would keep the front end from sagging under the extra weight, but can make the ride a little harsh if the weight isn't there.

Good luck with all your modding, and have fun!

I was looking at bumpers from a place called HeftyFabWorks. Never heard of them before but they look good. I'll check out the ones you suggested. Will be a while before I do anything like that. Also the lift and new tires are going on tomorrow while I'm at work.

Sweet, I bet you're excited! Definitely take some pics!

I really like the way the heft bumper looks on the facelifted X. It follows the new grille very nicely. There have been mixed reviews on Hefty regarding Hefty on the forums here, but last it was being discussed (Yesterday I think lol) we'd gotten word that the issues had been worked out and that it is a solid option.

Good news, lift and tires are both installed at it looks great. Bad news is by the time the tires were mounted and the alignment was done it got too dark outside to take pictures. Will take photos when I get home from work tomorrow.

I do have some rubbing on the inside fender at full lock, seems to be rubbing right where the mudflap meets the fender so it looks like I'll have to do the melt mod. Is the stock gearing adequate enough for the 33's or do you recommend upgrading in the future? I'm not sure how much extra strain the 33's have over the 31's although the weight doesn't seem to be a lot more than the stock tires.

Darn that sun for going down earlier this time of year! No worries, we'll wait until you have the chance I guess ;)

Melt Mod will definitely take care of the rubbing for you. You'll want to do that pretty quick because full lock + suspension compression will = major rub / stuck tire that will be hard to turn.

The stock gearing on the X has been plenty good imo for 33s. The stock tires are closer to 32" (at least on the OR model) so the 33s are really only an inch beyond what the X was sent with oem, and the VQ40 puts out really good power numbers. I might consider regearing for 35x12.5 tires but for putting down power that has as much to do with the huge width as it does the extra height.

Took a few photos before it got dark outside, unfortunately the pictures dont do it justice, its actually taller than it looks. Barely fits in the garage. Now lets see if these pictures work. These are before and after photos.

Very cool!

Yeah I know what you mean, it's really difficult to angle the camera right to take a picture that really accentuates a few inches of height. What I've found is that I try to take pictures closer to the ground now to give that perception of height.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! It looks like it's going to be really fun!

Best part is now when the rear hatch is open, I dont crack my head on it when unloading stuff in the back! The shop that installed the lift said that the lift measured a little over 3" in the front and just a little over 2" in the back (I'm thinking maybe thats to offset the settling that will happen over time). I was going to take some better pics with your suggestion but I was running out of time.

Yeah, this now my second vehicle that I had lifted. I had a 2001 Dodge Ram Reg. cab that I had lifted. Had a 5" suspension lift and 3" body lift with 37" tires. I sold that a couple years ago. I didn't want to go too extreme with the xterra as its my daily driver. I have to say that Nissan should have done at least the Pro4x's with 33's and a slightly taller stance, they look great.

I ended up doing the melt mod so the 295/75/16's would fit, however I still had to do a little trimming. Must be 295's slightly larger size than the 285's make the difference. I can turn fine now no rubbing except when in reverse going over uneven ground, then it rubs on the metal part of the fenders. Taking it easy now until I can figure out a solution to that. I'm not familiar with wheel spacers so I dont know if that will solve anything or not. Doesn't seem like that would solve the problem I'm having but it was a suggestion I was given. Any thoughts?

#19 ·
Most people here will tell you wheel spacers in the front are a bad idea. If they're not a quality item they can create a weak point in the suspension setup and add leverage force to what the rest of the suspension arms have to deal with which can wear them out faster.

Also removing backspacing probably won't help with rubbing. Because of the change in geometry, moving the pivot point of the wheel deeper will actually cause the wheels to rub more. I'd imagine though it won't take too much to get them to be rub free. I'll take a picture of how much got trimmed off of my fender to fit the 33s later and post it up. On mine you can't even tell if you're not staring at it.

Will get back on that soon!

Thanks Revu that'd help getting an idea of how it would look. Also I found out I have a piece of metal stuck in my brand new tires, looks to be some sort of fencing but cant tell for sure. Going to the place I bought the tires to have it removed and hopefully plugged.

Sorry it took a little bit to get back on these pics. I get side tracked too easily it seems

Anyway here's what we ended up doing to get my 285s to fit on my X with a -10 offset:

You can see that it's mostly at the bottom of the fender. It's not the cleanest job, but we bit into the meal about a quarter inch or so and I've never head to deal with rubbing even at compression since.

I think the stock offset is somewhere around +40, so switching to a wheel with -10 makes the wheels stick out pretty close to an extra 2 inches.

Hope that helps!
