Hello everyone
My sons Xterra has a pin hole leak in the high pressure side of the power steering line. The truck is about 3 hours from my home and I want to get it back to do the repairs. Is there a way to put a clamp over the hole and have it hold for that type of trip?
If I have to do the repair, where is the best place to be sure to get the right part? I understand it is hole unit and costs around $200. Are they hard to replace?
Thank you for your help, heloves this car and this is the first repair in 80K and three years!
Sincerely

I just have a friend with the same problem on a different vehicle. He reported slipping a heater hose and securing with hose clamps would NOT work. Whenever the system was pressurized it blew the setup right off.

And be sure to check out the fine print on any "stop leack" additives. All the ones I see in my cursory search are for seal leaks and say nothing about line leaks.

Wish I could be of more help on a solution, but all I really have is to replace the line where it sits.

there is a product called "rescue tape" you can find it at truck stops...that should do the trick, its self-sealing silicone tape that can withstand pretty high pressure. That with some brake cleaner to clean the line before you tape it should do the trick and tell him to keep some power steering fluid in his X till he gets home and to stop about every hour to check and make sure the level is still good

Yank the entire line. Crank the wheel from full-stop to full-stop a half dozen times (drain out all the fluid). Bung-up the holes, and drive home old-school.

I thought about shutting down the pump like old school but I was worried about too mauch damage and a lot of mountain highways. I will try the resue tape and see how that works. I also found the part for $220 so I may try repairing it completely. Is it a tough repair, it seems it is just two bolts?
thanx everyone

Technically speaking, yes the only critical bit are those two nuts. Two other bolts holding the line in place. However you'll need to bleed out the system well.
