With the factory control arms, you shouldn't go above 1.5" otherwise you will not be able to get a true alignment. Rule of thumb is 1/2" gap on the bumpstops will come out to being a 1.5" lift.

Any higher and you will rest on the bumpstops of the control arms. It will also put the CV axles at an increased angle which could create a lot of binding in turns. Aftermarket UCA's are longer and allow for factory alignment specs and still keeping the axles at a close to stock angle from t-case to wheel.

It's harder to text....but, there's threads here that give detailed instructions...including step by step pictures, etc.

I think you should search for t-bar adjustment and reindexing, and shackle installation.

I assume if you are mechanically inclined enough to make your own shackles....this project should be easy.

:D

On the X, the stock shackles are 3" eye to eye.....so, to get 1.5" of rear lift....the new shackles need to be 6" instead. (1" more shackle length gives 1/2" more lift, etc...)

:wink-big:
